Thuy Hai commune, Thai Thuy district is a place of longtime traditional salt villages, and this is also the only place in Vietnam that locates the Salt Queen Temple. The Salt Queen is Nguyen Thi Nguyet Anh, the third concubine of King Tran Thai Tong, born in 1280 in Trang Ouang Village (now belonging to Trang Lang Dong hamlet, Thuy Hai commune), in a family engaged in salt production. Every year, on April 14 of the Lunar calendar at the main temple, the Dung and Oa festival takes place to pray for proliferation and prosperity.
